I’ve been an elementary teacher for 10 years and I have quite a passion for learning and teaching. After my son turned one, I took a year’s leave and obtained certification in nutritional therapy through the Nutritional Therapy Association. My family belongs to a food co-op where we obtain quality, locally and sustainably grown meat, dairy, and grains. We’re expecting a baby girl in April!
Currently I’ m teaching part time in a 2nd grade classroom in Mason while also working part time as a nutritional therapy practitioner with Living With Motion Chiropractic.
A Nutritional Therapist is very different from any other kind of nutritionist or dietician. I practice something called "Functional Nutrition,” meaning I focus on YOUR bio-individual needs. I do not believe in a "one-size-fits-all" approach to health and healing. We are all different, have different nutritional deficiencies, are exposed to different toxins, have different belief systems, inherit different genetic factors, and so on.
I offer nutritional consultations and education, workshops, presentations, and in depth consultations focusing on restoring balance to your health.
The in-depth consultations might include 2-5 appointments with time in between to try out some dietary/ lifestyle changes. The process might go as follows. First, I'll look at your current dietary habits, lifestyle habits, and I will address and discuss with you your current health concerns. Then I'll look a bit deeper and collect information about your past health and medical history. After that the "functional" piece comes in, which allows me to ask the innate intelligence that keeps you breathing, thinking, and your heart beating each and every day, what exactly it needs from a nutritional standpoint to function optimally. I will conduct a series of functional tests where I press on specific points on your body to determine which organs and/or glands need the most attention. Tenderness or congestion in these points will show both of us where your health priorities are. This functional information allows me to target specific nutritional deficiencies in your body. With this important information, I'll be able to determine which foods and/or supplements will correct these nutritional deficiencies and I will also know when you no longer need this particular substance in a therapeutic amount because you have become sufficient and you can now maintain your health through a balanced approach to diet and lifestyle.
